CPCL commissions desalination plant
Chennai: Chennai Petroleum Corporation (CPCL) has commissioned its 5.8 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) Reverse Osmosis (RO) based desalination plant at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district, a company release said.
The plant, constructed at a cost of Rs 231.34 crore, comprising an intake well was located at Bay of Bengal, 500 metres from the landfall point at Ennore, the release said.
The sea water at 3,300 m3/hr was pumped to the RO plant facilities situated at 3.5 KM from the landfall point, it added.
The RO plant comprising four trains has been fully erected and the two streams of pre-treatment section have been commissioned.
The desalinated water would be supplied through pipeline from the plant to the refinery at Manali, which was about 20 KM from the plant.
Laying of pipeline for 18 KM was already completed. The plant after becoming fully operational would facilitate CPCL to achieve self sufficiency in meeting the current water requirements of its Manali refinery complex as also the requirements of Euro IV/Revamps/Resid upgradation projects, which are under various stages of implementation, the release added.
