CPWD to complete works worth Rs. 300 cr. in 2015-16.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) in Tamil Nadu – excluding Chennai – has projected completion of works worth Rs. 300 crore in the 2015-16 fiscal.

Additional Director General of the department covering Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu P.P. Srinivasan said that it was an increase from the works worth Rs. 165 crore completed in the rest of Tamil Nadu in 2014-15. 'Works projected to be completed include works to begin shortly and the projects that were started last year and are expected to be completed before the end of this financial year,' he said.

He added that close to 20 per cent of projected work load was to maintain the existing Central government buildings in the region.

He told this to journalists recently after chairing a review meeting on various ongoing works.

Mr. Srinivasan said that a major share of the work to be completed this year was worth Rs. 160 crore in the Indian Institute of Management, in Tiruchi – where works worth Rs. 348 crore were to be completed by them in 2015-17.

In Coimbatore, CPWD was constructing a swimming pool worth Rs. 4.5 crore for the Central Reserve Police Force at its unit on the outskirts of the city, which was expected to be completed in a couple of weeks.

Construction of Income Tax (IT) office and the staff quarters at Rs. 5 crore at Pollachi was expected to be completed in a year.

He said that their department was making efforts to establish more Central government holiday homes in the Madurai region.

The ADG said that there were holiday homes for Central government employees in Kanyakumari, Ooty and Madurai.

'It is planned to establish more holiday homes at Kodaikanal, Rameswaram and Havelock Island,' he added.

New projects in the pipeline worth Rs. 480 crore includes construction of EPF office in Salem, IT office and residential quarters in Erode, ICMR works in Madurai at Rs. 100 crore, quarters for Coast Guard in Mandapam and Tuticorin at Rs. 50 crore and Customs quarters in Tuticorin at Rs. 150 crore.
