Defence Ministry Signs ₹1,476-Crore Deal with Bharat Electronics Limited to Boost Air Defence Systems.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹1,476-crore contract with state-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of five ground-based mobile electronic systems for the Indian Army, with at least 72 per cent indigenous content.

The mobile systems are designed to strengthen air defence capabilities across diverse terrains by enabling dominance in the “invisible” electronic battlefield through advanced technical processes.

According to BEL, the systems fall under three key categories—Electronic Intelligence (ELINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT), and Signals Intelligence (SIGINT). Their core functions include detecting and intercepting radar emitters and communication signals with high precision, accurately locating the geographical origin of signals, and identifying the electronic signatures of enemy radar systems to determine the equipment being used.

The systems will also analyse collected data in real time to support operational requirements, helping forces detect, track, and counter hostile electronic activity effectively.
