Delhi Govt to Develop Sahibi River Road Corridor, Transfer Four Major Stretches to NHAI.

In a major infrastructure push, the Delhi government has announced plans to develop dedicated road corridors on both sides of the Sahibi river and hand over four key road stretches to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for expansion and maintenance.

The decision was made during a high-level coordination meeting chaired by Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma. According to an official statement issued Friday, the Sahibi river corridor will span from Dhasa to Wasai Darapur, providing an alternative route for commuters and helping reduce traffic congestion in the capital.

The meeting also cleared the relocation of a police outpost near the Dhaula Kuan metro station and the construction of a dedicated slip road from NH-48 towards Naraina, a move aimed at easing traffic flow and improving connectivity to IGI Airport and Delhi Cantonment.

The four PWD road stretches to be handed over to NHAI include:

  • A 13.2-km and a 6.8-km stretch of the Delhi-Rohtak Road (NH-10) from Peeragarhi to Tikri border and Peeragarhi to Zakhira, respectively

  • A 7.5-km stretch of Mathura Road (NH-2) from Ali village to Ring Road (Ashram Junction)

  • An 8-km stretch of NH-148A (M G Road)

Minister Verma said the initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to transform Delhi's road infrastructure into a modern, seamless, and future-ready network. He called the Sahibi river project a "game-changer" for traffic management in the city.

Officials from the Delhi government, NHAI, and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) attended the meeting to coordinate implementation plans.
