Delhi Govt Unveils ₹500 Crore Elevated Road Project to Ease Traffic in Sonia Vihar.
The Delhi government has greenlit the construction of a 5.5-kilometre elevated road in the Pushta Sonia Vihar area to tackle traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the trans-Yamuna region. The ₹500 crore project has been approved by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma announced on Friday.
Verma said the project was strongly advocated by local MLA and Minister Kapil Mishra. “Due to the large number of trees in the area, we chose an elevated road over a conventional one. The chief minister has approved the project, and construction will begin after consultations with the Flood Department,” he added.
The elevated stretch will run from Nanaksar Gurudwara to Shani Mandir near the Uttar Pradesh border, providing daily relief to thousands of commuters.
Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra hailed the project as a crucial step for trans-Yamuna residents. “This road has long been a concern for lakhs of people. With today’s approval, the BJP government has shown its commitment to swift development,” Mishra said.
PWD Minister Verma and Water and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra also inspected Nanaksar Gurudwara Chowk in Wazirabad to review area improvements and assess the project's viability.
