Dhanbad to Receive Six-Lane Bypass Extension and Elevated Road, Announces Gadkari.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has revealed plans for a major upgrade to a 20-km stretch of NH-19 between Govindpur and Nirsa in Dhanbad district, which will feature a six-lane extension and an elevated road. The project aims to alleviate congestion in the crowded areas of Govindpur and Nirsa, providing a smoother traffic flow as a bypass.

Gadkari shared the development in a post on X, noting that the project, which is part of the existing NH-19 (also known as GT Road and NH-02), will be crucial for enhancing connectivity in the region. The total investment for the project is Rs 1,130.54 crore.

This announcement follows the laying of foundations for several highway projects worth Rs 2,500 crore in Jharkhand by Gadkari in March of the previous year. Reacting to the news, state BJP president Babulal Marandi thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gadkari, emphasizing the importance of the highway as a vital link between Jharkhand and Bengal, and highlighting how the new flyover will improve commuting for the people of Koylanchal.
