Dorset Kaba plans expansion at its Haridwar facility

Hyderabad: Dorset Kaba Security Systems, an Indo-Swiss joint venture company that offers mechanical and mechatronic locks, is looking at investing Rs 150 crore for the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Haridwar.

The investment in the plant will be made over the next three years.

“We have already invested Rs 20 crore in the plant and in the first phase an additional Rs 50 crore will be invested in the next two years for bringing out new variants of existing products,” Mr Rajesh Bansal, Managing Director, Dorset Kaba Security Systems told newspersons here on Thursday.

Another Rs 100 crore will be invested in the second phase for the manufacturing door systems, ATM locks, safe locks and hotel locking systems which will be after 2010, he said. The company on Thursday launched four new high security access control systems in the Hyderabad market.

“The Quattro 1.1 is a reversible patented key system that is virtually impossible to copy, as it does not have a code on the key but is made by using a special type of milling which conceals the exact dimension of the code in the key,” he said.

The other product is mechatronic cylinder which opens when both mechanical and electronic access rights have been verified. “The Elolegic C-lever is mechatronic door lock. This has both options of opening with a key or though contact free chip which is put on the back of the key. It has also a flexible time programming feature for permanent or temporary access,” Mr Bansal said.

The company also launched a digital cylinder, which has radio frequency activation. Signalisation with illuminating ring characterises the feature of this battery-operated cylinder. “This product has also the capability of access control, time zone and access logging. Each cylinder can accommodate access media of up to 5,120 users,” he said.

According to Mr Bansal, the mechatronic locks range is between Rs 750 and Rs 800 and the locks with the chip facility is priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.

He added that currently the company imports the chips from its Swiss partner but once they start manufacturing the chips domestically, the cost of the products are expected to come down further.
