Chatrasal Singh, General Manager of East Central Railway (ECR), conducted a review meeting with key stakeholders on Monday evening to evaluate the progress of ongoing railway infrastructure projects. The session focused on addressing challenges and ensuring the timely completion of critical initiatives aimed at enhancing rail connectivity and fostering economic growth in Bihar.
According to Saraswati Chandra, ECR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, several major projects were discussed, including the construction of a third rail line between Sonenagar and Garwah (92 km), the doubling of tracks on the Kiul-Gaya section (130 km), and the development of the Neora-Daniyawan new line (42 km). These projects are expected to improve transport capacity, reduce congestion, and strengthen the region's railway network.
The meeting also reviewed the Nawada-Tilaiya new line (17 km), which is set to improve connectivity to industrial hubs, and the Jayanagar-Bardibas new line (69 km), designed to enhance cross-border rail links with Nepal.
Singh emphasized the importance of the Sonenagar-Garwah third line project, which will alleviate heavy rail traffic between Jharkhand and Bihar. Stakeholders provided updates on the project’s construction progress and discussed strategies to expedite its completion while minimizing disruptions to passenger services on this busy route.
Regarding the Kiul-Gaya track doubling project, Singh highlighted its potential to reduce travel time, accommodate more freight, and improve connectivity between Bihar and eastern India. The Neora-Daniyawan line was also noted as a vital addition to the region's infrastructure.
The Jayanagar-Bardibas new line project, a key focus of the review, was described by Singh as a “game-changer” for cross-border trade and tourism, linking India’s Jayanagar with Bardibas in Nepal.
The CPRO concluded that Bihar is poised for significant improvements in railway infrastructure in the coming years, which will enhance both passenger and freight services across the region.
