EEPC scores big with Cairo expo

Kolkata: The recent India Engineering Exhibition-Cairo 2006 (Indee), the exclusive Indian engineering show organised by the Engineering Exports Promotion Council (EEPC) in Cairo, Egypt, the second after 2001, has generated serious business enquiries worth $6 million, with spot orders of more than $1 million.

The council has established some 5,000 new business contacts in Egypt. Indee, this time, was part of `Mactech', an international exhibition in Cairo, attracting visitors from around the world. Some 115 Indian companies (mostly SMEs) participated, including a few big ones like Kirloskar and Escorts, with the maximum number from West and South.

Tie-ups

Briefing newspersons here today on the successful outcome of Indee-Cairo 2006, Mr M. C. Shah, Chairman of the Council's Publication, Exhibition and Delegation (PED) sub-committee, said the council has signed a MoU with the Chamber of Engineering Industry of Egypt (which has a membership of over 3,800) for cooperation in furthering Indo-Egyptian engineering goods trade.

EEPC has also initiated an agreement with the long standing Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, which has over 2500 members. Mr Shah said both these MoUs will enable the EEPC members to have interaction with their Egyptian counterparts both in Cairo and Alexandria, said to be the two major commercial centres in Egypt.

Mr Shah said engineering exports to Egypt during 2005-06 was $145.58 million, registering a growth of 52 per cent over that in the previous year.
