"Electric Ferry Service to Connect Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Starting Next Month"

A new electric ferry service connecting Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) is set to begin operations in January 2025, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) announced.

The air-conditioned ferry, capable of reaching speeds of 12 knots and running for three hours on a single charge, will cut travel time between the two destinations by 20 minutes. JNPA will oversee ticketing for the ferry, which can accommodate 20-24 passengers per trip. The vessel, procured on lease, is constructed from fibre-reinforced polymer and measures 12-15 meters in length.

Charging the ferry fully takes approximately 75 minutes, the release stated. “This initiative aims to provide a zero-emission, environmentally friendly travel option for the public," JNPA noted. The project aligns with the Harit Sagar or 'Green Port' initiative, emphasizing sustainable and pollution-free port operations.

Passengers are expected to benefit not only from reduced travel times but also from the eco-friendly nature of this state-of-the-art service.
