Electricity board clears trans-grid project.

The Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEB) director board, which met recently, accorded administrative sanction for the trans-grid facility for enhancing its transmission capacity.

Work on the trans-grid would be completed in such a way to tap the complete potential of the first high-voltage direct-current link between Pugalur and Madakkathara.

The project is expected to cost Rs.9,400 crore and the first phase is estimated to cost Rs.4,745.77 crore. The first phase would cover works on the multi-circuit, multi-voltage line between Madakkathara 400-kV substation and Areekode 400-kV substation. In addition, it has been proposed to construct 400-kV substations at Mylatti in Kasaragod, Wayanad, Edamon, Kottayam, Kollam, and Kundara.

As many as 26 substations, including those at Neeleswaram, Kunnamangalam, Thalassery, and Kakkayam, would be constructed as part of the trans-grid facility.

The director board has been accorded administrative sanction for constructing a new substation for transmitting the power generated at the 10-MW solar project at Ambalathara in Kasaragod and double circuit line for smooth transmission of power by linking it to Kanithode-Mylatti line.

Sanction has also been given for a Rs.45-crore project for laying a multi-circuit line for doubling the capacity of the 110-kV substation at Chalakudy.
