The public sector undertaking has four production units in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
All of these have in place Environmental Management Systems (EMS), which help minimise or eliminate impact on environment.
In a press release on the occasion of the World Environment Day, NMDC claimed that it has planted more than 31 lakh trees at the mines and operational townships with a survival rate of 80 per cent. Interestingly, the slimes generated by washing of ore at Bailadila 14/11C are being sold directly to HGPL (ESSAR) along with fines generating revenue and indirectly solving the problem of water pollution, it said.
