"Engineers India Limited (EIL) has successfully executed a record-breaking Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) crossing under the Brahmaputra River."

State-run Engineers India Ltd (EIL) recently said it has achieved a major engineering milestone with the successful pullback of the Brahmaputra horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossing measuring 4,058 metres, the longest such crossing in the world for a 26-inch diameter pipeline.

The company said the achievement surpasses its own earlier record of a 4,027-metre HDD crossing beneath the Ganga river, accomplished under the same project. The latest feat underscores EIL’s engineering capability, innovation and execution strength in highly challenging terrain, it added.

The drilling operation forms part of the Paradip–Numaligarh Crude Oil Pipeline (PNCPL) project, a key infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening crude oil transportation in eastern India.
