Essar Group Unveils US$18 Billion Steel Investment Plan in the United States
Essar Group has announced a major investment programme of approximately US$18 billion in the United States, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the country’s steel and mining sectors.
Through Mesabi Metallics, the group plans to develop a proposed US$15 billion integrated steel complex in Iowa. The facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 10 million tonnes of steel, positioning it among the large-scale steel manufacturing projects planned in the United States.
The proposed Iowa project is expected to support the growing demand for domestically produced steel while strengthening the group’s integrated raw-material and manufacturing operations in North America. Production at the facility is targeted to begin around 2030.
In addition to the proposed Iowa investment, Essar has already committed nearly US$3 billion to its mining and pellet operations in Minnesota. These investments are aimed at developing a reliable supply of iron ore pellets for the company’s broader steel manufacturing strategy.
The combined investment highlights Essar Group’s long-term expansion plans in the U.S. industrial sector and reflects increasing investment interest in advanced steel manufacturing, mining and associated infrastructure.
