Dalmia Bharat Sugar Enters Tanzania with Integrated Sugar Project.

Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Ltd has approved the development of an integrated sugar project in Tanzania as part of its international expansion strategy and efforts to diversify into global bio-energy markets.

The company’s Board of Directors, at its meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, approved the project through Eagle Agrotech Tanzania Ltd (EATL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Eagle Agrotech Holdings Ltd (EAHL).

EAHL is a 51% subsidiary of Dalmia Bharat Sugar, while the remaining 49% stake is held by Symphony Global LLC, an investment holding company of H.E. Mohamed Ali Rashed Alabbar, founder and chairman of Emaar Properties, a UAE-listed company.

The Tanzania project will involve the development of sugarcane plantations, a sugar manufacturing unit and a cogeneration facility, with an estimated investment of $132 million.

The company said the project marks a key milestone in its global growth strategy, supporting geographical diversification and creating a platform to participate in international bio-energy opportunities.

The investment is expected to benefit from favourable market conditions, with Tanzania and the wider East African region facing a structural shortage of sugar production. The company sees opportunities for import substitution and supplying neighbouring regional markets.

The integrated sugar estate is planned across more than 10,000 hectares, with the potential to expand up to 20,000 hectares. The captive sugarcane plantations are expected to provide a reliable raw material supply and improve long-term operational stability.

The first phase of the project will include a sugar manufacturing capacity of around 70,000 tonnes per annum (TPA), expandable to 150,000 TPA, along with a 20 MW cogeneration facility that can be scaled up to 40 MW.

Over the medium to long term, Dalmia Bharat Sugar plans to develop the integrated complex into a diversified bio-energy platform by utilising sugar by-products through sustainable and commercially viable value-added initiatives.
