Foundation stone laid for new building at Pollachi GH.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V. Jayaraman recently laid the foundation stone for comprehensive emergency trauma and orthopaedic care centre at Pollachi District Headquarters Hospital.

The Rs. 1.5 crore centre will operate round-the-clock and is to treat accident victims. It will have facilities on par with tertiary referral centres such as the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

The Pollachi GH, located on National Highway 209, treats between 10 and 15 accident victims every day with the monthly average hovering around 450.

Hospital Superintendent S. Kannan said that the building will have two floors. The ground floor will have ten beds to treat accident victims. It will have four orthopaedic surgeons and an equal number of general doctors along with two general surgeons and a couple of anaesthetists besides 15 staff nurses. Specialists such as neuro surgeon, cardio thoracic surgeon and urologists can also be availed on a case-to-case basis.

The first floor will have 40 beds for maternity, post-operative and ophthalmology wards besides an yoga and lifestyle clinic. A blood bank will also come up.
