Garden Reach Bags Order for Four More Hybrid Multipurpose Vessels.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), the Kolkata-based shipbuilding powerhouse, announced recently the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Germany's Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Rehder GmbH & Co. KG for the construction of an additional four 7,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels.
The significant MoU was formalized in the presence of Union Minister of Shipping, Ports and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, underscoring the strategic importance of this collaboration.
These newly ordered vessels will incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and adhere to the latest cybersecurity norms, reflecting a strong commitment to advanced and environmentally conscious maritime technology. This latest order builds upon an existing contract for eight similar vessels that are currently under construction at GRSE's yard in Kolkata, further solidifying the German firm's confidence in GRSE's capabilities.
Beyond the agreement with Carsten Rehder, GRSE also forged new strategic alliances, signing MoUs with Aries Marine LLC from the UAE for the "Construction of Offshore platforms and Vessels," and with a global engine manufacturer. These partnerships aim to further diversify GRSE's robust portfolio and expand its collaborative network.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly between India and Norway, during his address. "Our governments are also working closely on green shipping corridors, decarbonisation efforts, ship recycling, and capacity building. The India-Norway Task Force on Blue Economy stands as a cornerstone of this deepening engagement," Sonowal stated, highlighting India's commitment to sustainable maritime practices on a global scale.
This series of agreements reinforces GRSE's position as a leading shipyard and its dedication to embracing cutting-edge, eco-friendly technologies in shipbuilding.
