Generating companies stay away from bidding for two key ultra mega power projects.
Power project developers say they won't be able to pitch for two proposed ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) with a capacity of 4,000 MW each if their concerns are not resolved as they seek to persuade the government to make changes in bid conditions.
Tata Power, Adani Power, Jindal Steel & Power, JSW Energy, Sterlite, CLP and GMR Energy are some of the firms eligible to bid for the UMPPs in Tamil Nadu and Odisha.
Representatives of these firms are expected to meet power minister Piyush Goyal to discuss their concerns over the state of the power sector and possible changes in the bid terms for UMPPs.
This could mean the possible reversal of decisions taken by the previous UPA government to facilitate investment of close to Rs. 40,000 crore in the two big-ticket projects.
