GHMC seeks Rs. 5,916 cr. for skyways across city.

At the first council meeting of the newly-elected body of GHMC, the ambitious SRDP (Strategic Road Development Plan) project of the TRS government was put on a fast track. The Corporation sought a sanction of Rs. 5,916 crore from the State government towards the construction of skyways connecting Nagole with east and west side of the Outer Ring Road. As per the plan, bridges will also come up across the Musi river.

The first citizen of the State and Mayor B. Rammohan in his speech on Tuesday reiterated his commitment towards meeting the 100-day action plan.

Apart from talking briefly about the SRDP project, the Mayor also touched upon the objectives of the action plan, including construction and development of new parks, playgrounds, model markets and graveyards. He also said that 10,000 applications of the Land Regularisation Scheme (LRS) will be processed.

Most of the day’s proceedings revolved around ‘swachh autos’ and garbage-related issues of the city.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said that Corporation would strive to make Hyderabad a bin-less city by ensuring direct transfer of the waste from homes in a couple of years. He informed that 2,900 dumper bins exist in the city and 4000 metric tonnes of waste is generated everyday and the idea was to reduce these bins gradually.

Replying to a query on replacing tricycles with ‘swachh autos’ at various localities in the city, the Commissioner observed that there was conflict between rickshaw-pullers and auto drivers since it was affecting the livelihood of the former. He said that efforts were on to make a compromise between the two groups in such a way that the rickshaw-pullers also assist the ‘swachh auto’ drivers. Mr. Reddy also said that they plan to replicate the Delhi model in the city by segregating and recycling the construction debris. The number of awareness programmes that were being taken up for promoting ‘Swachh Hyderabad’ initiatives was also listed out.

The council meeting passed off peacefully barring some heated exchanges between TRS and MIM party members on a couple of occasions.
