Govt Approves ₹206 Crore Plan to Deploy Kavach on Key Northern Railway Routes.

Indian Railways has approved a ₹206 crore project to deploy Kavach Version 4.0, the country’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, across 680 route kilometres of the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections, including feeder branch lines under Northern Railway.

The project is part of the Railways’ nationwide initiative to expand Kavach coverage across high-density and strategically important railway corridors to enhance operational safety.

Kavach is designed to prevent Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents and train collisions by continuously monitoring train movements and automatically applying brakes whenever required.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the system also enables trains to operate safely at maximum permissible speeds and supports reliable train operations during challenging weather conditions, including dense fog.

The deployment of Kavach 4.0 on the Northern Railway sections is expected to improve railway safety, enhance operational efficiency and increase the reliability of passenger and freight services.

The technology-driven upgrade will support faster and safer movement of trains while strengthening the overall signalling and safety infrastructure across key railway routes.
