Govt. proposes to set up industrial hub in Dharwad.
If everything goes to plan, the first industrial hub of the State, to be created under the Bengaluru-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (BMIC) project, will come up in Dharwad.
Minister in-charge of the district Dinesh Gundu Rao told presspersons here on Friday that the State government had sent a proposal to the Union government in this regard. Under the BMIC project, several industrial hubs will be set up along 550 km of the corridor route. The State government's decision to set up the first such hub in Dharwad would boost the industrial progress in this region.
The government had nearly 3,000 acres of land in the land bank in Dharwad and there was scope to acquire more land if required, Mr. Rao said. Deputy Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan said that the industrial hub requires nearly 5,000 to 8,000 acres of land, which was available in Dharwad.
Other places like Chitradurga and Tumakuru were also in the race to get the industrial hub but the government is keen on Dharwad. The proposed hub would come between Dharwad and Belagavi along National Highway 4, he said.
The hub will facilitate the growth of the manufacturing sector.
Here, the industrial infrastructure would be developed and allotted to the industrialists on fast-track basis, Mr. Cholan added.
