Green Energy Projects Worth ₹48,500 Cr Face Regulatory Delays.
India's ambitious drive to add 50 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy (RE) capacity annually until 2030 is facing an impending slowdown, as a confluence of litigation, unresolved policy matters, and regulatory roadblocks has brought numerous significant projects to a standstill.
Industry associations and energy experts indicate that solar power accounts for a substantial portion—nearly 48 percent—of the nation's current installed RE capacity of 220 GW. However, it is precisely these solar projects that are bearing the brunt of the challenges.
Among the critical issues impacting these vital installations are ongoing litigation, persistent delays in the operationalization of transmission lines and grid connectivity, the unavoidable impact of force majeure events such as natural calamities, and an overarching policy uncertainty that discourages new investments and hinders project execution.
The slowdown poses a significant challenge to India's commitment to transitioning towards a greener energy future and achieving its ambitious climate targets.
