GRSE Secures Contract to Build Multi-Purpose Vessels.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), a Central Public Sector Enterprise, announced the signing of a contract for the construction and delivery of the second vessel in a series of four additional Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) in Hamburg, Germany.
The contract, signed on December 4, involves a 7,500 DWT MPV. GRSE confirmed that agreements for the remaining two vessels in the series will be disclosed once finalized. This follows a June 22 contract with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co, KG Germany, which included an option to build four additional ships.
In September, GRSE received confirmation to proceed with the additional four MPVs under the existing terms. The company valued the contract for these vessels at approximately $54 million, bringing the total deal for eight MPVs to $108 million. The construction of all eight vessels is expected to be completed within 33 months from the contract signing date.
Separately, GRSE achieved a milestone in indigenous technology by formally delivering the "Jaldoot" Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) to the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam. This autonomous vessel is the result of a collaborative R&D effort between GRSE, NSTL, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with the support of Indian start-up Rekise Marine.
“This accomplishment underscores our commitment to fostering indigenous technological expertise and leveraging the potential of Indian start-ups,” GRSE stated in a release.
