Gwadar Port schedules for commercial operation in June

Islamabad: The Gwadar Port will open in June this year as work on the first phase of the project is complete, the National Assembly was told during question hour on Saturday.

“The first phase of the project is complete. But because of some infrastructure requirements, the opening of the port has been delayed until June this year,” Ports and Shipping Minister Babar Khan Ghouri stated in a written reply.

He said that a 14.5-metre deep channel was being dug at the port and will be completed by July. The government has also adopted a comprehensive strategy for the effective management of the Karach, Qasim and Gwadar ports, he said.

Communication Minister Muhammad Shamim Siddiqui said that the Peshawar-Lahore, Lahore-Kot Sabzal and Kot Sabzal-Karachi sections of the National Highway (N-5) had been handed over for traffic control to the Motorway Police, adding that the force also be deputed on the Coastal Highway in Balochistan.
