HAL to Invest Rs. 4,500 Crore at Koraput Plant Over 5 Years.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will invest around Rs. 4,530 crore over the next five years at its Koraput engine division in the development and modernisation of its facilities, and manufacture and overhaul of aircraft engines.
According to sources at HAL, this investment will enable the unit to achieve a turnover of around Rs. 3,340 crore in 2020-21 from the present figure of Rs. 1,579 crore.
The investment of Rs. 4,530 crore will be split up thus: manufacture and overhauling of the AL-55I engines for the Intermediate Jet Trainer Rs. 620 crore, modernisation of the engine division Rs. 185 crore, augmentation of the AL31FP engine facilities for the Sukhoi 30 MKI aircraft Rs. 1,100 crore, overhauling of the RD-33 Ser.3 and RD-33 MK engines for the MiG series Rs. 1,100 crore and the High Altitude Test Bed Rs. 1,525 crore.
The Koraput engine division has witnessed steady growth since 2011-12, when its turnover stood at Rs. 1,524 crore. In 2012-13, the turnover achieved amounted to Rs. 1,547 crore, and currently (2013-14), it stands at Rs. 1,579 crore.
The division has manufactured 1,597 engines and overhauled 7,474 engines since its inception in 1964.
