Haldia Petrochemicals to Launch $10 Billion O2C Project in Tamil Nadu
Haldia Petrochemicals (HPL), headquartered in Kolkata and renowned for its production of polymers and chemicals, is embarking on a bold venture with a $10 billion investment in an oil-to-chemicals (O2C) project situated in Tamil Nadu. According to CEO Navanit Narayan, this project aims to directly convert crude oil into chemicals, addressing the escalating demand for polymers across the nation.
Upon completion, the project is slated to possess a capacity capable of producing 3.5 million tonnes of ethylene and propylene, crucial components utilized in an array of products such as shopping bags, automobile parts, and water pipes, among others.
HPL's substantial investment underscores the robust demand for chemicals within India and is also driven by the prevailing oversupply conditions in the global petrochemicals sector.
