Haryana gets investment proposals worth Rs 3,750 cr
New Delhi: A delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to the US and Canada received investment proposals worth Rs 3,750 crore from these countries.
The official-cum-business delegation was on a visit to the US, Canada and Germany from October 8 to 20. The primary objective of the visit was to promote Haryana as an ideal destination for investment.
Informing about the investment, the chief minister said Spectrum International LLC, a US company owned by an NRI, had announced an investment of Rs 2,000 crore for food preservation and processing industries of Haryana.
Hollister Inc of the US, a leading manufacturer of medical care (Austomy) products, proposed to set up a 100 per cent export-oriented unit on 10 acres of with capital investment of Rs 250 crore at its growth centre in Rewari district. Dr Fresh, a leading brand in the US, was setting up a special economic zone in the state.
During the visit to Canada, an agreement was singed between Rico Auto Industries Ltd and Magna Powertrain, a unit of Canada's Magna International Inc, to form an equal joint venture in India with a proposed investment of Rs 300 crore. The venture would make oil and water pumps for automotive engine applications for Indian and European markets.
The chief minister said it was for the first time that a Haryana delegation interacted with the congressional caucus on India and Indian Americans at Washington.
The delegation met small and medium enterprises and high-end technology companies based at the US and Canada.
Based upon the feed back from the Haryana-based NRIs, it has been decided to appoint P K Choudhery as financial commissioner and principal secretary of industries of the state to deal and coordinate with the NRIs scouting for investment in Haryana.
In an important development, he said he met Rosann Wowchuck, deputy premier, Province of Manitoba, Canada and it was agreed to exchange scientists, engineers, doctors and farmers in the mutual exchange programme for training and upgrade of skills and for immigration.
The delegation visited the World Bank and held a meeting with the senior functionaries of the bank for the review of the pending project proposals submitted for highways, water supply, sanitation and power for the state.
Hooda said proposals for improvement of the state highways and creating high-speed corridors were discussed. The chief minister said the state ranked number one in per capita income, per capita investment and fiscal management and the target of the state was to make it number one state in the country in all the spheres.
