Honda Enters Indian EV Two-Wheeler Market with Launch of Two Scooters.

Japanese automobile giant Honda has entered the Indian electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first two e-scooters, the ACTIVA-e and QC1. This move marks the entry of another legacy automaker into the rapidly growing EV segment, which saw sales of 0.8 million units in 2023 and is projected to reach 22 million units by 2030, according to market intelligence platform Redseer.

Honda aims to capture 50% of India's EV market in its first year, with both scooters offering different battery technologies. The ACTIVA-e is equipped with a swappable battery, while the QC1 features a fixed battery. The swappable model will offer a subscription-based battery service, providing a cost-effective solution for EV owners.

The company plans to establish 500 battery swapping stations across Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai, ensuring customers have access to a swapping station within a 5 km radius.

Manufactured at HMSI’s Narsapura plant near Bengaluru, Honda intends to produce and sell 100,000 units of its electric scooters in the first year. The ACTIVA-e and QC1 will be available in select cities starting February 2025, sold through HMSI’s dealer network.

Honda's entry adds to the competition from established players like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and industry giants Bajaj, TVS, and Hero, all vying for a share in the growing electric two-wheeler market.
