HZL to Recover Zinc and Silver from Waste Minerals in Mined Ores.

Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), India’s largest producer of zinc, lead, and silver, is set to recover valuable zinc and silver from historic tailings-waste minerals left after initial ore extraction—through the country’s first large-scale zinc tailing reprocessing plant.

The plant will be established at Rampura Agucha in Rajasthan, with the objective of transforming these tailings to support clean energy and infrastructure development.

HZL’s board, part of the Vedanta Group, approved the project last month with an investment of ₹3,823 crore. The facility will have an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes, marking a significant step toward sustainable mining practices and resource optimization.
