"IHCL set to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu with a new Ginger property in Thoothukudi."

The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), which operates the Taj group of hotels, has announced the signing of a new Ginger-branded hotel in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

The greenfield project, located on the Tirunelveli–Tuticorin highway, will take IHCL’s presence in Tamil Nadu to 28 hotels, including 10 properties that are currently under development.

Commenting on the development, Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice-President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL, said Thoothukudi is emerging as an important economic hub in South India, supported by a strong industrial base and fresh investments. She added that the expansion of large-scale projects in the automobile and energy sectors has led to significant long-stay demand, making the city a suitable market for the Ginger brand.

The signing, she said, underscores IHCL’s focus on expanding its footprint in high-potential destinations while addressing evolving traveller needs.
