IKEA India Unveils Aggressive Expansion Plan, to Ramp Up Local Sourcing
Ingka Group, the operator of IKEA stores, is intensifying its focus on the Indian market, aiming to significantly boost local sourcing while speeding up its retail expansion.
The company plans to open 5-6 new customer touchpoints annually over the next five years, marking a substantial acceleration from its previous pace. This strategic push is part of a broader effort to build on existing sourcing volumes and establish a stronger presence in one of the world's fastest-growing retail markets.
Responding to Global Uncertainty
Jesper Brodin, CEO of Ingka Group, addressed the ongoing geopolitical volatility and the potential impact of US tariffs. "There is still a lot of uncertainty, so we continue to monitor it," Brodin stated. "Since we have very little opportunity to influence it, we need to get ready to adapt to it."
Brodin highlighted that IKEA’s supply chain is designed to be not just global, but also regional and local. However, he acknowledged that any additional tariffs would have economic consequences. "Then we will have to see if we can absorb more and what we need to do with it in the future," he added, indicating the company's commitment to navigating a complex economic landscape.
