Indian Firm Reaches Major Milestone in Titanium Manufacturing.

Aerolloy Technologies, a subsidiary of PTC Industries, has marked a significant achievement by becoming the first private Indian company to commission a Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) furnace for aerospace-grade titanium alloy production. The state-of-the-art facility, manufactured in Germany and unveiled today in Lucknow, boasts an annual melting capacity of 1,500 metric tons and can produce titanium alloy ingots with diameters up to 1,000 millimeters.

This milestone places India among an elite group of nations—including the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom—capable of producing high-grade titanium alloys for aerospace applications. The VAR facility’s advanced technology ensures operation under vacuum conditions, delivering superior metallurgical structures and uniform alloy compositions critical for components like jet engines and airframes.

Jim Collins, Chief Technology Officer of PTC Industries, highlighted that the facility aligns with global standards for aerospace-grade titanium alloy production. Chairman Sachin Agarwal emphasized the strategic significance of this development, stating it eliminates India’s dependency on imports for these critical materials.

As part of its broader expansion in the aerospace sector, PTC Industries is developing a new manufacturing facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. This facility will feature a fully integrated titanium and superalloy mill, enabling the production of aerospace-grade ingots, billets, bars, plates, and sheets, further bolstering India’s self-reliance in advanced material manufacturing.
