Indian Railways Signs MoU with Swiss Rail for Technology, Track, and Infrastructure Upgrades.
Indian Railways has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Swiss Railways to boost technical collaboration across track maintenance, technology upgrades, and infrastructure modernization.
The agreement, signed via video conference by India’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Swiss Federal Councillor Albert Roesti, Head of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, and Communications, sets the stage for ongoing collaboration on projects to enhance efficiency and reliability for both passenger and freight services in India.
A Joint Working Group (JWG) has been established to drive this partnership, focusing on areas such as station modernization, railway electrification, tunneling technology, and collaboration on passenger and freight cars. Indian Railways presented investment opportunities for Swiss companies at the third JWG meeting, chaired by the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board and the Director of Switzerland's Federal Office of Transport.
“This partnership will significantly enhance Indian Railways’ efficiency, benefiting both passenger and freight operations,” Indian Railways said in a statement, noting that Swiss companies are expected to contribute machinery, materials, and consultancy for tunneling projects.
