India's First Offshore Facility Decommissioning Achieved by ONGC, JV.

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has announced a significant achievement in collaboration with its joint venture partners, Shell (through BG Exploration & Production India - BGEPIL) and Reliance Industries (RIL). The Panna-Mukta and Tapti (PMT) joint venture has successfully completed India’s first offshore facilities decommissioning project.

The PMT joint venture, which operates the Tapti fields under a production sharing contract with the Government of India, comprises ONGC holding a 40 percent participating interest, while RIL and BGEPIL (Shell) each hold a 30 percent stake, the exploration and production (E&P) company stated.

This landmark project involved the complex and safe removal of five wellhead platforms and their associated infield pipelines. The dismantled structures were then safely loaded-in at the onshore dismantling yard. Crucially, the project also included the secure plugging and abandonment of 38 wells, all executed in strict adherence to the approved decommissioning plan. This successful undertaking marks a significant step forward for India in managing the lifecycle of its offshore oil and gas infrastructure.
