IOC Secures Bid for Kochi–Kanyakumari–Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline Project.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has granted authorisation to Indian Oil Corporation Limited to lay, build, operate and expand the Kochi–Kanyakumari–Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline (KTPL), marking a significant step in strengthening gas infrastructure in southern India.
According to a statement from the regulator, the proposed pipeline will originate from the Kochi LNG Terminal in Kerala and extend to Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. The project will span approximately 425 kilometres and have a system capacity of 6.84 million metric standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD), including common carrier capacity.
The pipeline is expected to facilitate efficient transportation of regasified LNG from Kochi to key demand centres across Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. It will also support the expansion of city gas distribution networks and ensure a steady supply of natural gas to industries, power plants and other downstream sectors in the region.
Officials said the project is likely to boost energy accessibility and contribute to cleaner fuel adoption across southern India.
