Hyderabad's Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) is set to become India's largest Metro junction, potentially surpassing Delhi's Kashmere Gate Metro station in terms of interchange connectivity, according to plans revealed by Hyderabad Metro officials. The proposed development aims to create a Metro network with connections in all four directions, extending to the farthest corners of Greater Hyderabad.
One of the key projects in the pipeline is a 60-km uninterrupted Metro line from Medchal to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGI), passing through JBS, MGBS, and Chandrayangutta. This line is poised to become India's longest single Metro line, surpassing the 59.2 km Delhi Metro pink line.
Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) is tasked with transforming JBS into a massive interchange station that will integrate multiple corridors. These corridors will extend toward Medchal and Shamirpet in the north, Kokapet in the west, Patancheru in the northwest, Hayathnagar in the southeast, and the airport in the south.
The development of this mega Metro hub will involve consolidating around 30 acres of land from both state and defense authorities. "This development will significantly improve connectivity for commuters from Secunderabad and northern Hyderabad, as well as passengers traveling from northern Telangana districts," said NVS Reddy, Managing Director of HAML.
The project has already undergone an extensive review, with officials inspecting multiple road alignments around JBS to finalize the Metro corridors. One key suggestion is to initially combine the Paradise-Medchal and JBS-Shamirpet corridors before they are split into separate routes. The final alignment is expected to pass through key areas such as Bowenpally and Tadbund, providing a seamless connection between major parts of the city.
The new Metro hub at JBS is expected to revolutionize transportation in Hyderabad, making it a vital center for commuters across the region.
