JSW Infrastructure Ltd Commissions Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal in Chennai.
JSW Infrastructure Ltd, a leading private sector port operator, has announced the commissioning of its Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Arakkonam in Chennai. In a regulatory filing, the company said the Southern Railway, Chennai Division, has granted approval to begin commercial operations with immediate effect.
The terminal has been developed on land owned by Indian Railways under the Government of India’s “Gati Shakti” initiative, which aims to enhance logistics efficiency and strengthen multi-modal connectivity across the country. JSW Infrastructure had secured the contract for construction and operation of the facility in June 2024.
Located at Arakkonam, the terminal is positioned to serve the industrial hinterland of Tamil Nadu, enabling efficient cargo movement between rail and road networks.
The facility became operational on April 14, 2026. Developed entirely on railway land under a long-term concession model, the terminal is expected to boost JSW Infrastructure’s logistics capabilities in southern India by enabling faster and more cost-effective movement of bulk and break-bulk cargo, while also expanding the company’s presence beyond traditional port operations.
