"JSW MG Motor Aims to Shift Focus from Traditional ICE Vehicles"

JSW MG Motor India announced on Wednesday that it plans to shift its focus from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to new energy vehicles (NEVs). The company aims for 50% of its total sales to come from NEVs within the current calendar year.

Parth Jindal, Director at JSW MG Motor India, emphasized the company’s commitment to NEVs, including strong hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles, as the future cornerstone of MG Motor.

The company recently launched its first vehicle since the JSW Group's investment in MG Motor India—the electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV) ‘Windsor’. This model introduces an innovative ownership program, Battery as a Service (BaaS), with an introductory price of ₹9.99 lakh plus ₹3.5 per km for optional battery rental. The Windsor also comes with a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner, a guaranteed 60% buyback after three years or 45,000 km, and one year of free charging at public chargers through the eHUB by MG app.

The Windsor is equipped with a 38 kWh Li-ion battery pack, offering a range of 331 km per charge under standard conditions and can be charged in 40 minutes at any DC fast charger.

Jindal indicated that the company is keen to avoid traditional ICE vehicles, including mild hybrids, unless specific technologies necessitate their introduction. “We prefer to avoid ICE vehicles as much as possible,” he stated.

Rajeev Chaba, CEO Emeritus of JSW MG Motor India, noted that electric vehicles currently make up 35% of the company’s sales. The Windsor, the company's sixth model, will be available for bookings starting October 3 and deliveries will begin on October 12. In the first seven months of this year, the company's EV sales have surged by 52%.
