Kakinada SEZ to get second port in East Godavari: Chandrababu Naidu.
The Kakinada special economic zone (KSEZ) project will be implemented in the right earnest, according to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The AP CM also said that industrial units will come up and a port will be built in the KSEZ area at Perumallapuram in Thondangi mandal.
He was speaking recently after laying the foundation stone for the Rs. 100-crore tourism project – christened Konaseema circuit – linking the Kakinada beach, Hope Island and the Konaseema area in East Godavari district. He said the tourism potential of the Konaseema area in the district should be fully exploited.
He said the State Government would soon announce a comprehensive tourism policy and grant industrial status to tourism projects.
Referring specifically to KSEZ, he said the greenfield port at Perumallapuram was originally conceived as a captive port for the KSEZ units, but it would now be developed as a commercial port. Airport upgradation
On the proposal to set up an oil refinery in the KSEZ, he said the proposal had not yet taken shape. However, other industrial units will come up in the KSEZ, he added.
He said that the Rajahmundry airport would be upgraded and the runway would be extended to facilitate the landing of bigger aircraft.
The Godavari 'pushkar' fete would be celebrated on a big scale in July in both Godavari districts, and the event will draw pilgrims/tourists from all over the country.
Later, the Chief Minister visited Rajahmundry and participated in May Day celebrations and a public meeting on the occasion.
