Karachi Port handle record volume of cargo in a day

Karachi: Karachi Port handled a record volume of cargo of 168,210 tons in a day ending at 0700 hours on Friday, January 20, 2006. This is the highest recorded of cargo handling in a single day, surpassing 163,253 tons of November 10, 2004.

A statement issued here said that cargo handled during 24 hours ending on 0700 hours on Friday 89,916 tons dry cargo and 78,294 tons liquid cargo. This included loading of molasses and ethanol, and unloading of crude oil, palm oil, chemicals and naphtha.

The dry cargo comprised 44,212 tons of containerised cargo, 13,897 tons general cargo and 31,807 tons bulk cargo
