Kerala Proposes Gold Corridor to Strengthen Jewellery Manufacturing Cluster.

The Kerala government has unveiled plans to develop the Kochi–Thrissur belt into a major jewellery manufacturing corridor and establish a dedicated gold exchange hub, aiming to capitalise on the State’s position as the largest consumer of gold in the country.

The initiative was announced in the State Budget, presented by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan. It is intended to strengthen value addition within Kerala, generate skilled employment opportunities, and position the State as a global centre for jewellery design, manufacturing and trade.

The government has earmarked ₹10 crore for the project as part of its initial allocation, signalling the start of efforts to build an integrated ecosystem for the gold and jewellery sector in the region.

Officials said the proposed corridor is expected to boost industrial clustering in the Kochi–Thrissur belt, which already has a strong presence in jewellery manufacturing and allied businesses.
