Kerala to get 122 MW power from NTPL’s power project

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will get 122 MW power from the proposed thermal project being established by NLC-Tamil Nadu Power Ltd (NTPL), joint venture between Neyveli Lignite Corporation and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

The Electricity Minister, Mr A.K. Balan, said here on Wednesday that Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Pondicherry, apart from Kerala, would share the power generated at the 1,000-MW project coming up at Tuticorin. Since it had been categorised as a mega power project, it would be eligible for duty and tax reliefs announced by the Centre and consequently, the unit price would be comparatively lower, he said.

The unit price will be decided by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission and it is estimated that it will be Rs 2.92 in the first year. The project is slated to be commissioned in 2011-2012.
