Kerala's RRTS Project Gets Centre's Green Light, Contingent on DPR.
The Centre has assured Kerala of its full support for the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project, according to Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar. The support, however, is contingent on the state government submitting a detailed project report (DPR).
Speaking at the Kerala Urban Conclave in Kochi, Minister Khattar confirmed that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had already brought the rapid rail project to his attention.
"The success of Kochi Metro and Water Metro demonstrates Kerala’s potential in modern transportation infrastructure," Khattar said. He noted that the expansion of the Kochi Metro is also progressing smoothly through the collaborative efforts of both the state and central governments.
Highlighting India’s broader progress in urban transport, Khattar stated, "with 1,065 km of running metro, India is the third largest in the world after China and the USA, and in the coming 2–3 years, we will surpass the USA too."
