KESC signs 50 MW rental power contract

Karachi: The new Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation (KESC) management has signed a key contract of 50 MW rental power, deployed for and period of over two years, to provide additional capacity and minimise power shortages in the metropolis, says a press release.

The 50 MW rental power will be installed at two sites located in the city and integrated directly into Karachi's utility grid. The initial 20 MW is due to be commissioned by the end of this year and the remaining capacity will be fully on stream by March 2009.

New KESC CEO Naveed Ismail said: 'Controlling load shedding is an immediate priority. Recognising the supply gap in this city's electricity needs, we have identified the need for and already invested in - new rental power within the second week of our coming on board. Further efforts are underway to bridge the gap between demand and supply in Karachi for the long-term.'

The rental power contractor, operating various temporary gas power projects in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia, will also provide a full turnkey power solution, including design, installation, and full maintenance.

The KESC is currently under a new leadership team, headed by Naveed Ismail, which is committed to ensuring that the performance of the Corporation is transformed into that of a world class operator.
