"Kirloskar Brothers opens 80% renewably powered plant in Tamil Nadu."
Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. (KBL), an Indian multinational engineering company specialising in fluid management solutions, has inaugurated a new factory building at its Kaniyur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The inauguration coincides with the company completing 100 years since the manufacture and installation of India’s first centrifugal pump in January 1926.
The company said the new factory building has been designed to enhance productivity, improve operational efficiency, and support advanced manufacturing processes. It is expected to help KBL cater to rising domestic and global demand while maintaining stringent quality standards.
Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., said the new facility reflects the company’s confidence in India’s manufacturing capabilities and its preparedness for future growth.
“As we mark 100 years since installing India’s first centrifugal pump, this facility strengthens our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions while staying committed to customer value, people empowerment, and nation-building,” she said.
KBL said sustainability is a key focus at the Kaniyur facility, with renewable energy expected to power nearly 80% of its operations. The solar power installation at the site is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 122.5 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent and cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 89%.
“With renewable sources now meeting close to 80% of the facility’s electricity requirements, the initiative supports energy efficiency, long-term cost sustainability, and responsible growth, while delivering annual savings of approximately ₹21.64 lakh,” the company said.
The company is also expanding into new growth areas. Riding on the data centre boom in the United States, KBL’s U.S. operations are shifting from standalone component supplies to modular, containerised packaged systems for data centres.
KBL said it now integrates complex piping, control systems, and valves into modular units for fire protection, primary cooling, and secondary cooling applications in data centres.
Separately, the company recently secured an order to supply 14,000 pumps for petroleum applications, competing directly with U.S.-based companies.
