Kochi Metro Team Starts Survey for Goa Water Taxi Project.
Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has launched a detailed survey across 28 locations in Goa as part of a feasibility study for the proposed Goa mass water transit system. The study will evaluate potential routes and passenger demand for a future water taxi network across the state.
“Glisten Verghese, Yogesh R, and Prajakta Pande from KMRL and Systra Consultancy, along with their team, are conducting the study for the mass water transit system,” said Vikramsinh Rajebhosale, Director of the River Navigation Department (RND).
Appointed by the Government of India as the nodal agency, KMRL will submit its findings to the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and the Goa government upon completion of the study.
The initiative follows the success of Kerala’s water metro project, which inspired Goa to explore similar operations. In August, River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Dessai met with KMRL officials in Kerala to study the operational framework and assess the feasibility of implementing a comparable model in Goa.
“With over 90 km of navigable inland waterways and several islands located away from the mainland, Goa aims to leverage KMRL’s detailed project report and consultation documents to guide our own implementation process,” Phal Dessai said.
