Koradi's 660 MW thermal unit begins commercial operations

This could be good news for parts of eastern suburbs, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

To meet the shortfall of power across state, including these areas in Mumbai metropolitan region, the Mahagenco has begun commercial operations of its Koradi thermal unit-8 which will generate 660 MW of additional power for the grid.

With this, the total power generation by Mahagenco will go upto 12,077 MW and make it one of the largest power producing companies in the country, sources said. The power generated by Mahagenco, through thermal, wind, solar and hydro plants, is distributed across the state through MSEDCL -- which supplies between Kanjur Marg and Mulund, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The state power generation comprises a total 9,300 MW of thermal power plants.

With the commercial operations of 660 MW unit 8 at Koradi commencing from December 16, there are plans for 2 x 660 MW more thermal plants at Koradi, besides 2 x 500 MW thermal units at Chandrapur and a 250 MW unit at Parli next year, sources added.
