Lanka govt to develop housing projects in Ampara
Colombo: The government, in its drive to end shelter problems of the poor has implemented various housing projects in the Ampara District under the Negenahira Navodaya (Eastern Resurgence) and Gama Neguma national programme, National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) sources said.
Plans are afoot to construct 2,000 housing units at a cost of Rs. 150 million in the Ampara district under the Negenahira Navodaya accelerated Eastern Development Programme, the sources added.
In addition to the proposed housing project, 150 housing units will be constructed in the Ampara district under the Gama Neguma National Programme.
Meanwhile Housing and Common Amenities Minister Ferial Ashraff handed over the ownership of Unagaslanda housing scheme to beneficiary families at a ceremony at Unagaslanda. The NHDA allocated Rs. 50,000 to each beneficiary family to implement the housing scheme.
The scheme was completed in four months with NHDA technical guidance. The NHDA has allocated Rs. 1 million including loans and grants for housing development projects implemented in the Dehiattakandiya area.
