Lanka: Ministry to develop border villages, infra facilities
Colombo: The Ministry of Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development plans to invest Rs. 400 million on developing bunkers to fortify border villages and develop infrastructure facilities.
“Urgent steps are being taken to enhance the security of border village that are constantly attacked by the LTTE. This includes plans to fortify Ethawatunuwewa with 313 bunkers with an investment of Rs. 30.3 million. Out of this the construction of 248 bunkers has already been completed,” Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister, S.M. Chandrasena said.
The construction of 49 bunkers out of the 92 planned for Kalyanapura has also been completed. Janakapura and Galoya are also included in the plans.
Minister Chandrasena stressed that the bunkers will be built in a way that they can be reused as housing facilities later, without having to be abandoned in a post-conflict setup.
He also added the construction of 100 houses in Vavuniya will commence with immediate effect.
