Leh Airport Modernisation Project Gains Momentum as New Terminal Reaches 83% Completion.

The new integrated terminal building at Leh airport is 83% physically complete and is being developed to significantly improve air connectivity to the strategically important Himalayan region, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said recently.

In a post on social media platform X, the minister said the upcoming terminal will be capable of handling up to 54 flights a day once operational, nearly three times the airport’s existing capacity.

“Fast-paced construction of Leh's new airport terminal... 83 per cent of the physical construction is complete. Once operational, the new terminal is designed to handle up to 54 flights a day, three times the current capacity, advancing the government's vision of next-generation aviation infrastructure,” Naidu said.

The expansion project is expected to boost passenger handling capacity at Leh airport, strengthen connectivity to Ladakh and support the region’s growing tourism and travel demand.

The terminal development is part of the government’s broader initiative to modernise airport infrastructure and expand aviation capacity across the country.

The Civil Aviation Minister, however, did not provide details on the expected commissioning timeline or the total cost of the project. Further information on the remaining construction work is awaited.
